Alicante: City Hotels and Accommodation
A good selection of hotels can be found in Alicante city centre, which lies approximately 9 km / 6 miles to the north-east of Alicante Airport (ALC). Accommodation here is particularly popular during the hot summer months, when many tourists arrive to enjoy Alicante's sandy beaches and seasonal festivals, such as the Fiesta de Sany Joan each June. Hotels can therefore quickly fill to capacity, making advance booking essential at this time of the year. Lodging can be found throughout the following districts.
Old Quarter (El Barrio / Barrio de Santa Cruz)
Steeped in history, the Old Quarter of Alicante is often referred to simply as 'El Barrio' and can be found around Mount Benacantil. Accommodation in this part of the city has the advantage of being close to the acclaimed Castillo de Santa Bárbara and the Catedral de San Nicolás de Bari, often being centred around Alicante's main artery, the Rambla de Méndez Núnez. Known for its charming narrow streets and historic buildings, many hotels in the Old Quarter feature period architecture and stylish rooms, never being far from traditional Spanish restaurants and Tapas bars.
La Zona District
A lively district known for its nightlife and funky clubs, La Zona offers an excellent selection of reasonably priced hotels. Located close to the Explanada de Espana, the best accommodation in Alicante's La Zona district stands around the Calle Alemania and Calle San Fernando, amongst other streets.
El Puerto District
Waterfront hotels in Alicante's El Puerto neighbourhood are always popular and regularly fully booked. An exciting district, a range of accommodation can be found throughout El Puerto, although many of the best hotels are on the pricey side. Attractions here include a wealth of shopping opportunities, numerous top dining establishments and seasonal events. Lodging in El Puerto is also well-placed to explored the nearby Panoramis Complex.
The glorious sandy beaches of Alicante have long been one of the city's major draw cards, attracting thousands of tourists every year. As you would expect, many modern high-rise beachfront hotels have appeared over the years, most of which offer spectacular views of the shoreline.
A number of glorious beaches can be found along Alicante's Mediterranean coastline, with good connections to the city by regular buses and trains. The main beach in Alicante is the Playa del Postiguet, which can be busy during the high season. However, just 6 km / 4 miles from Alicante you will find the quieter beaches of San Juan de Alicante, which offer excellent facilities, including plenty of nearby hotels, shops and bars. Around 12 km / 7 miles to the south of Alicante, the Playa Arenales beach is a particularly appealing spot, with large sand dunes and plenty of space. Day trips to the nearby island of Tabarca are also equally enticing, with regular boats departing throughout the year from the Explanada de Espana.
